Chesapeake Figure Skating Club Board Meeting
April 17, 2007 at Ice World
Meeting called to order: 6:39 p.m.
In attendance: Lee Jones, Brenda Amrhein, Richard Dennison, Sam Ketterman, Linda Gettier, Nick Kohut, Heather Cywinski and Susan Dennison.
Approval of minutes: The minutes from March 13, 2007 were approved with one change requested by Linda.
Fundraising Committee Report: Heather reported that the Log Cabin Candy total sales were $1,839.30. The Club receives 40% as profit. The current profit is $675.55 and a check for $60.17 is expected to be added. The total profit would then be $735.72. Heather was the top seller.
Adult Committee Report: Adult Nationals were last week in Chicago. Mika Smith placed 5th in her Qualifying Round and 6th in her final round. Heather placed 2nd in her Qualifying Round and 8th in her final round. Lee and his partner, Andrea, placed 10th in their event.
Carnival Committee Report: Nick presented a packet of information about the Spring Show; the packet included a draft reminder letter, budget proposal, and draft volunteer list. The rehearsal time for the Spring Show has changed to 6:00 p.m. on May 17, 2007. Linda noted that one hundred chairs were enough for last year’s show. Linda offered to print the tickets unless someone else donates the tickets. Nick will contact those who signed up as volunteers. It was suggested that the Board might buy patches instead of trophies for the Show skaters. Susan will send the sanction letter for the Spring Show. Nick will review the volunteer sign-up list.
Treasurer’s Report: Linda presented a report covering December 12, 2006 through April 16, 2007. Available funds are $9,582.76. The available funds do not include reimbursement to Sam for flowers and toner; also not included is reimbursement to Linda for patches and the scanner/printer. Lee donated materials for the skater’s wall.
Secretary’s Report: No report. Brenda questioned whether an e-mail received from Suzana today serves as a resignation. No one was sure.
Membership Report: Susan reported that there has been no change in membership. Susan gave Linda $96.00 from the sale of some used skating apparel. Susan reported that the Jammin’ jacket from the Silent Auction has been delivered to Dawn DiRocco.
Youth Committee Report: Molly was not present.
Test Committee Report: Linda reported that two judges are in place for the judge’s critique during the Spring Show. They are Leslie Gianelli and Pat Cahill. It is assumed that all show skaters will participate in the judge’s critique. Lisa Lupton will shepherd the judges. Skaters will have a five minute critique with their judge. Linda hopes to have the certificates from the February 24, 2007 test session next week and she should also be receiving those patches. Discussion of whether the Club will purchase 24 K gold pins for Adult skaters who reach the Gold level was tabled. The Board voted to reimburse skaters who pass their Junior or Senior moves or Adult Gold tests at another club’s test session for the amount of the test fees charged by the Chesapeake FSC.
Publicity Committee Report: Sam will send an e-mail asking for ideas for new Club logo. Sue said some submissions were in the collection box. Sam has contacted the Aegis and he will write a paragraph for the community section.
Unfinished Business: Continued revision of the By-Laws was deferred. The Board voted to assign the Club’s votes for the USFS Governing Council to John and Holly Cole.
New Business: The Board needs to know if Suzana is resigning. Susan reported that Jammin’ told her Washington FSC has a website through Jammin’ for sales; Jammin’ can do this for our club also. Clubs designate the percentage of sales that they want returned. Jammin’ sends a check to the club when sales reach $50.00. The Club chose Monday, June 18, 2007 as the date for the General Meeting. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and ice time will be offered from 7:30-9:00 p.m. The General Meeting will be the only meeting held during June. Sue will be checking on how many open Board positions there will be for next year; there may be seven open positions. Sue suggested that skaters participating in the Spring Show make sure their music is protected.
Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
